We develop hands-on education programs (workshops, curriculum and toolkit) in
solar energy (photovoltaic) for middle and high school students.
Our programs also introduce students to fundamentals of electricity and electrical
circuits related to photovoltaic.
We develop two types of hands-on workshops:
1) Foundation workshops in electricity and solar energy for 5th grade to high school
students. These workshops focus on preparing students to learn basics of
electricity, energy efficiency, power consumption through fun and hands-on learning
and prepare them to take on our educational training workshops.
2) Educational training workshops that prepare 8th grade to high school students
for post high school training programs in photovoltaic.
In our workshops, students get together in small teams and follow step-by-step
guide to first understand the basic concepts and then build a system (such as a
solar tracker circuit) or a more complex activities.
Our programs are developed with inputs from the industry and over 75 teachers and
several students that have participated in our workshops in California, Colorado,
Texas, Florida, Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Pre-test and post knowledge retention quizzes are offered during our workshops.
We emphasize particularly on hands-on learning because during our initial
workshops, we observed how students jump on hands-on activities. Their energy
level goes many folds higher when we switch from presentation part to hands-on
activity part.
Students and teachers alike find it fun to attend our workshops. We have made
learning fun even for abstract concepts such as electrical circuits. While learning to
build a solar tracker circuit, our participants often say that it feels like we are making
a puzzle.
Our programs/workshops:
1) Foundation programs to help students (5th-12th grades) understand basics of a
topic:
Program #1: Hands-on program in basic electricity and Ohm's law.
2) Educational training programs to help students (8th-12th grades) get familiar with
post high school education:
Program #2: Hands-on program in solar tracker circuit design
